June 28 , 2010 NEW!!! Short Film about Ligo Dojo's Young Warrior's Program - Click Here!
Sponsored by Triangle Community Foundation (TCF), Durham Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC), and NC Governor's Crime Commission (GCC), Ligo Dojo's Young Warriors Program works with a growing list of referring agencies to help Durham youths between the ages of 7 and 16 to join in our classes for free or at subsidized rates. Working with a wide range of kids facing issues such as family trauma, juvenile court involvement, and poverty, Ligo Dojo seeks to strengthen all kids physically, mentally and spiritually through karate training in order to help them become healthy, optimistic, successful in school and in life, and to become role models in order to help guide other members of the community towards better and better sets of life decisions by example. Participating agencies include, but are not limited to: NC Department of Juvenile Justice, Center for Child and Family Health, Student U, Carolina Outreach, Durham At-risk Youth Collaborative, Durham County Social Services, Duke University Community Outreach involved community centers and public schools, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Triangle, PROUD, Exchange Club's Family Center, Triumph LLC Intensive, Lincoln Community Center, Forest View Elementary, and others. Add your agency's name to this list? Call program director Nathan Ligo at 923-6915.
***Kids pictured on this page include ALL kids training and Ligo Dojo. We do not distinguish between kids who have been referred from participating agencies and kids whose parents bring them in for karate lessons on their own. All kids participate together, therefore all photographs contain pictures of both referred and non-referred kids. (Ligo Dojo adult students are also present in some of the photos.)
